Scriptures for Making Decisions
Every day we make decisions. Most of the decisions that we make are not as difficult as other decisions. God has the wisdom we need to help guide us when we are searching for answers. Don’t search for answers on your own, turn to these 17 scriptures for making decisions to help you along your path.
James 1:5-6 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”
When we are faced with a tough decision, we need to spend time in prayer. When we pray in faith, God will give us wisdom to make the best choice. His grace is there for every need, every burden, and for every difficult decision you have to make in life. We never need to wrestle through these along.
Psalm 19:8 “The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The command of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes”
When making a tough decision, it is important to turn to the Scriptures to look for guidance. The Scriptures have the ability to speaks to us. The word becomes personal and special to you as though it was put there just for you for what ever you’re facing. The Bible’s not meant to be an answer book, but rather a guide to help us get through life and the decisions that come along with it.
Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes”
When we are faced with tough decisions, there’s a need to want a quick solution, but remember that God is working behind-the-scenes for you. Only He knows when the time is right. Waiting for God does not mean you just sit and wait. Spend time in his presence, in his word, in prayer and find strength because you’ve spent time with God. Reflect and meditate with thankfulness because of the Lord’s goodness
Proverbs 15:22 “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed”
When face with decisions, take the time to talk to your mentors, parents, friends, pastors, or church leaders. It’s helpful to talk with people who know you, who know your faults and strengths, and who knows the situation. But most importantly, find someone who knows the Lord and has been following Him for some time. Their views and ideas may give you a different perspective on your situation and the decision you have to make.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”
When faced with a decision, we need to do our homework: write down pros and cons, weigh out every option in our minds, pray, get advice and counsel. But in the end, we need to make a decision. It all comes down to trusting and believing in God to lead us to the right decision.
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
When you have a decision to make God is telling us not to worry about anything, but pray for guidance to make the decision.
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
There is grace and mercy for your decisions. Sometime the weight of the decisions we have to make become overbearing. This verse reminds us that we can go to our Heavenly Father and receive mercy and grace when we need it the most. Sometimes we may feel like we are backed into a corner over a decision we have to make. Take great comfort and know that God is there for us.
James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”
In the decision-making process, the Lord can bring new revelations and perspectives about the situation. You must keep your hearts open to other possibilities. Know that he will make a path for you even when it seems impossible.
Proverbs 4:18 “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of the day.”
Faith is an important component to accepting God’s wisdom. We must recognize the God wants us to communicate with Him that God wants to communicate with us. God’s direction in our decision will become clearer and more distinct as we continue to pray and ask for His help
Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God is going to use everything that happens to you for your good. Knowing that good is going to result from your decisions, regardless if things pan out the way you imagined or not, should give your heart and mind immediate peace.
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Success to God may not always look the was we envisioned it, so it’s best not to concern ourselves with the details. Focus on placing your full hope and desires in Him and trust that we will show up on our behalf
Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
When we are faced with a decision, we can often feel like the options before us are the only options. But know that if you ask for his guidance, God can do things we never thought of or even imagined. God is able to create new and better paths for you. God alone has the power to make a way where there seems to be no way. He brings us into new places and opens a way that may otherwise be filled with obstacles.
Lamentations 3:23 “They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
This is a promise from the Lord that regardless of what you do or don’t do, that no matter what does or doesn’t happen, you get to enjoy God’s mercy each new day. He is always faithful, not because we deserve it, but because of who He is. The decisions we made yesterday, the ones we will make today, and the ones that have yet to be made tomorrow are all be covered in the Lord’s mercy.
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be open to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
God promises us that as we come to Him, seeking His wisdom and leadership, He will give us all that we need. He reminds us that He is the door opener and that nothing is too difficult for Him. God is never late. Until He opens the next door, we can keep praising and trusting Him right where we are, knowing that He is faithful to lead our way.
Proverbs 28:13 “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy,”
Given the amount of decision, both big and small, that we make in a day, in a lifetime, we’re bound to make a few that may not have been the best choice. While there are consequences to every decision we make, we don’t have to carry the guilt one day to the next. God’s mercy covers everything!
